You don’t need to know everything about how to achieve your vision before you take the next step. In this episode, Louie Giglio, pastor of Passion City Church and founder of the Passion movement, challenges us to tackle with intensity the big leadership visions God has given us.
KEY TAKEAWAYS:
You don’t need to know everything about how to get up the mountain to take the next step.
Three Big Ideas:
Life is short
God is big
Take the next step
God’s power is sufficient enough for us to take the next step.
We often learn the most during our most difficult steps.
Story 1: In 1995, the Passion movement was born out of a dark time that followed Louie’s father’s death. Years later, Louie got to proclaim Jesus at Passion while standing on the logo his father designed for Chick-fil-A. Through that experience, he learned to embrace the darkness as God’s preparation for a greater role in his unfolding story.
Story 2: In 2008, when starting Passion City Church, Louie started experiencing anxiety attacks that caused convulsions and numbness. After five months, God pulled him up out of a pit. Through that experience, he determined that the church will be built on Jesus, not on him.
Story 3: In 2013, after agreeing to pray at U.S. President Barack Obama’s second inaugural, Louie was on every news channel in America. The news was inaccurately reporting that he hated people. He had built his whole life on serving people. He wanted to disappear. Through that experience, he and his wife gained a new resolution that their calling was to make the fame of Jesus the center point of their ministry.
In difficult steps, we:
Are tested and refined
Learn about the faithfulness of God
Are humbled
Humility makes great leaders. Humility is the by-product of being with Jesus.
God’s grace is enough for us to take whatever step we need to take.
The ultimate goal is to get into the arms of Jesus.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS:
Identify a “mountain” that God is calling you to climb right now. Describe it below.I sense God calling me to: ___________________________________________________________
Reflect on a time in your life that would be characterized as a difficult step. In restrospect, what did you learn through that challenge that you might not have learned another way?
What does God’s faithfulness during your past challenge indicate about the confidence you can have in pursuing your next mountain?
What is one next step you can take to climb your mountain in the next week?
